Understanding the Positive Approach to Care
What is the Positive Approach to Care
The Positive Approach to Care (PAC), developed by Teepa Snow, focuses on understanding brain changes and the importance of relationships when supporting people living with dementia. This approach emphasizes using evidence-based communication and techniques like Positive Physical Approach (PPA) and Hand-under-Hand® (HuH) to ensure care is done with the person, not to the person.

PAC promotes dignity, independence, and meaningful engagement for people living with dementia, while also benefiting their care partners. By creating supportive environments and using the right strategies, people can continue leading fulfilling lives even as brain changes progress, fostering meaningful engagement for both people living with dementia and their care partners.
